Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 16, 1920, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. as the sister organization of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was chartered to encourage the highest standards of scholarship scientific, literary, cultural an educational programs. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. had a mission to foster and exemplify sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. Our five founders are: Arizona Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Tyler Faithful, Viola Tyler Goings and Fannie Pettie Watts.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is known for explimifying its standards of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. We are also know for many of our "firsts" such as being the FIRST and ONLY to have the principle of Finer Womanhood. Zeta is also the FIRST and ONLY to be constitutionally bound to the men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The sorority was also the first to charter chapters in West Africa and Germany; to form youth and auxilary groups, to establish an centralized headquarters with a paid staff, and to establish a undergraduate chapter south of the Mason-Dixon line.
